Lindbergh High School sophomore James Huff IV has been named WIAA Athlete of the Week on Jan. 18.
The WIAA announced 12 student athletes from across the state in different winter sports on Jan. 18. Huff was one of four boys basketball players out of the 12 athletes across six classifications.
Huff is representing the entire 2A classification this week with his award. Here is the comment about Huff from the WIAA website: “Sophomore James Huff led the Lindbergh Eagles basketball team to three consecutive victories this past week. In a 56-42 victory over Hazen High School on January 6, Huff led the team with 21 points and 10 rebounds. On January 9, he followed up this performance with 13 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 steals in a 74-50 victory over Evergreen. On January 12, Huff once again filled the stat sheet with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 blocks in a 61-44 victory over Highline High School. He continues to be a leader on and off the court, inspiring his coaches with his continued growth.”
Huff is the third Renton School District athlete to win Athlete of the Week this school year. He is the first winter sport athlete and first Lindbergh athlete to win so far this year. He joins sophomore Molly McCorriston (Hazen), girls swimming, and Riley McDowell (Renton), a soccer player. McCorriston and McDowell were both named Athlete of the Week in Week 6 of the 2023-24 sports season.
The last Lindbergh athlete to take home an Athlete of the Week award was Heston Grant, a boys swimmer in Week 17 last year.
Huff received a letter of recognition from the WIAA Executive, certificate of achievement, a $25 Dick’s Sporting Goods gift card and statewide bragging rights.
