Lots of happenings this month in Renton.

Nominations for Best of Renton 2024: Nominate your favorite businesses, community leaders and more for the Renton Reporter’s annual Best of Renton contest at https://vote.rentonreporter.com. The nomination round will run through Feb. 2. Finalist round voting will open on March 14 and close on April 4. Winners will be announced May 2024.

Jan. 31

The Renton Reporter hosts Minimum Wage Forum at Carco Theatre: The Renton Reporter will host a public forum featuring supporters and opponents of the proposed minimum wage increase that will go before voters in next month’s special election. The free event runs 7 to 8 p.m. and the forum will also be live-streamed on the Renton Reporter’s Facebook page. The moderated forum will feature panelists from the “pro” and “con” sides of the issue. The “pro” side will include representatives of the Raise the Wage Renton campaign, while the “con” side will include representatives from the local business community. Carco Theatre is located at 1717 Maple Valley Hwy in Renton.

Feb. 7

Free Museum Day at the Renton History Museum: Enjoy the wonders of the past with free admission to the museum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free museum days are every first Wednesday and third Saturday of each month.

National Girls & Women in Sports Day Celebration at Don Persson Renton Senior Activity Center: From 6-9 p.m., be inspired by the stories and experiences of trailblazing women in sports, celebrate the accomplishments of female athletes, coaches, and leaders in our community, enjoy a delicious dinner, and engage in an enlightening panel discussion featuring prominent figures who shed light on the challenges and victories of women in the sports world. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at rentonwa.gov/register.

Feb. 13

The Renton American Legion Fred Hancock Post 19 Business Meeting: The Renton American Legion Fred Hancock Post 19 meets the second Tuesday of every month, except July and August, at 7 p.m. at the Post Hall, 3224 NE 12th Street, in the Renton Highlands, under the water tower. All veterans welcome. Most vets eligible for membership. America’s premier patriotic veterans organization and the prime driver of the original G. I. Bill, the Legion focuses on service to veterans, and has influenced considerable social change in America, won hundreds of benefits for veterans, and produced many important programs for the community, children and youth. Come join us, area vets.

Feb. 15

Café Vets: Monthly gathering of veterans and guests for coffee and refreshments hosted by Renton American Legion Post 19 and Auxiliary Unit 19 on the third Thursday of every month (except December) from 10 a.m. to noon. Come for coffee, camaraderie and goodies. Legion membership is not a requirement, though most veterans are eligible for membership. Post Service Officer will be on hand, in case someone needs assistance with a VA claim. No agenda, just veterans getting together with other veterans and their friends. Post Hall is in the Renton Highlands, under the water tower (3224 Northeast 12th Street).

Feb. 16

Shooting Star Soiree Winter Family Dance at Renton Community Center: From 6 – 8 p.m., this family dance will include your favorite tunes, the chance to strike a pose at the photo booth, enjoy some light refreshments and take home a special keepsake. For ages 3+. Registration is required for each attendee at rentonwa.gov/register. $15 fee for Renton residents and $18 for non-residents.
