Freshman Nathan Bunch threw a four-hitter to lead BYU to an 8-3 win against Southern Utah March 10.
Bunch graduated from Hazen last year, where he led the Highlanders to the state tournament for the first time since 1993.
Bunch threw 120 pitches in the game, BYU’s first complete game of the season. His record now stands at 1-0.
“It was a lot of fun being able to go all the way,” Bunch said in a press release. “I haven’t pitched on our home mound since the fall, so it took a little time to find my rhythm. Once I got my mechanics back I started to pitch much better.”
Bunch was able to pitch out of trouble early in the game. In the second and third innings, Bunch left five Southern Utah runners stranded.
“He (Bunch) has done great all year long,” Law said in a press release. “Once he got his feet under him he did an outstanding job.”
