Smoking drugs in public: At 1:21 p.m. Feb. 19 at the southwest corner of S. 2nd Street and Whitworth Ave. S., officers responded to a drug act in progress, and when they arrived at the scene, officers noticed a man covered with a blanket and white smoke coming out from underneath. After contacting the individual and witnessing him using illegal drugs, he was arrested and booked into jail.
Domestic violence: At 11:11 a.m. Feb. 20, officers responded to a domestic dispute that had occurred the day before. The victim’s brother reported that his sister was assaulted by her ex-boyfriend. The sister confirmed that she was assaulted in front of her children. Officers developed probable cause for first-degree domestic violence assault and first-degree robbery. The Violent Crime Unit arrested the suspect on Feb. 21. He was booked into jail without incident.
Driving under the influence: At 8:05 a.m. Feb. 21, in the 300 block of Maine Ave. S., officers responded to a two-vehicle, rear-end collision with unknown injuries in the 300 block of Maine Ave. S. When officers arrived, they noticed two men talking beside the vehicles. One driver’s eyes were bloodshot and watering with drooping eyelids. The subject also had difficulty talking without slurring. The officer also smelled a strong odor of intoxicants. Following a field sobriety test, the man was arrested for DUI.
Methamphetamine located: At 11:50 a.m. Feb. 21, in the 200 block Burnett Ave. S., an officer was flagged down while on routine patrol when a subject holding an open beer can approached and said he was having issues with a group of people. The officer noticed two others trying to flag him down as well. When the officer went to the location where they were, there was a group of three more and at least 15 smashed beer cans. After identifying those involved, one was confirmed to have a warrant for fourth-degree assault. During a search after his arrest, officers located suspected methamphetamine. He was arrested and booked on his warrant and was cited for drug possession. The subjects were told to discard their beer and leave the scene.
Assault suspect arrested: At 12:28 p.m. Feb. 21 under the Bronson Way Bridge at 1036 Bronson Way S., officers responded to an active threat with a knife. The victim reported he was assaulted while on the trail after accidentally bumping into someone. Officers located the suspect, and he was arrested and booked into jail.
