The 60 percent chance of rain in the weekend forecast has forced the postponement of the closure of northbound I-405 in Bellevue.
“We were ready for construction this weekend; but with rain in the forecast, it’s not worth the risk,” said Seema Javeri, WSDOT project engineer.
The weekend work included laying down permanent striping on I-405. With the significant changes in the way the roadway and lanes were laid out, the striping had to be perfect. A rainy work zone would prevent crews from putting down the good quality striping that’s needed in this area.
“It’s really about driver safety,” Javeri said. “Drivers need to see lanes clearly. We are in a position to wait another week to get that good forecast.”
The weekend closure was scheduled so that crews connect new ramps to I-405 and SR 520. The closure will be rescheduled for the next good weather weekend, which could be as early as next weekend, Oct. 1. Contingencies were built into the project schedule and this will not delay the overall project.
