Rotary Club of Renton has selected their Youth of the Month for November

Virginia Wanjiku is a senior at Hazen High School. She holds a 3.7 grade point average (GPA).

Wanjiku has been involved in Link Crew, Ignite, Earth Corps as secretary, Key Club as vice president, ASB, drama, volleyball and tennis. She has received academic achievement, lettered in varsity volleyball, received most inspirational in tennis, and is a scholar athlete. She’s also received the Hazen Pride Award, Diversity Award, Outstanding Junior, and the Spirit Highlander Award. Wanjiku volunteers with Birthday Dreams for homeless children. She plans to attend medical school to become either a nurse or a doctor. She also hopes to work with Doctors Without Borders and the United Nations.

Justin Riccardo is a senior at Lindbergh High School. He holds a 3.9 GPA.

Riccardo has been a member of Skills USA and is currently nominated for Skills USA State Officer. He is captain of the Lindbergh Golf Team and MVP. Riccardo has received National Honor Society member recognition, the Jr. Honor Society Award, and Student of the Month for Spanish. He volunteers with First Tee of Greater Seattle, Habitat for Humanity and Emblem Club. Riccardo plans to attend the University of Washington, and then attend DigiPen Institute of Technology to become a video game developer/designer.

John Mehlhaff is a senior at Renton High School. He holds a 4.0 GPA.

Mehlaff is involved with FBLA and has held various office positions. He is also a member of Key Club, math club, orchestra, and Renton High Cross Country. He is a class representative and has received the Harvard Award, department awards, in various subjects, Outstanding Junior Award, and FBLA Regional Award. Mehlhaff volunteers with Grace Community Church, Highlands Community Church, and Key Club. He plans to attend a four-year university to study math and science. He hopes to work in the math and science field as an engineer or biological researcher.

Rotary members recognize three Renton School District high school students each month as Youth of the Month. After being selected by counselors at each of the district’s three comprehensive high schools, a selection committee of Rotary members reviews applications and interviews students to identify those who will be selected as Youth of the Month.
