UPDATE TUESDAY: Renton Police reported Tuesday that there have been no new reported sightings of a cougar. Renton animal-control officers investigated and notified state wildlife officials.
A cougar was spotted coming down a hillside by a Renton Police officer late Monday morning in the 2100 block of Lake Washington Boulevard.
The cougar didn’t appear to be aggressive and ran back up into the woods, according to Commander David Leibman, a spokesman for the Renton Police Department.
The management of a nearby apartment complex was notified. The sighting was not far from Gene Coulon Memorial Park.
Renton’s animal control officers were checking out the situation.
A cougar sighting is unusual, Leibman said. There have been bear sightings in Kennydale.
