Judith Tabak’s letter to the editor Oct. 21 expressed views about Councilman Greg Taylor which I found hard to believe, based on my own conversations with Councilman Taylor about the downtown library issue. Yet, not only did I speak with Mr. Taylor a number of times but was at the council meeting when the vote was made to approve the library bond issue. He was not only one of the three dissenting votes on the council, but he was the ONLY one who spoke up against the bond issue being approved as it was, without further chance for input and decision on the part of the public. He clearly was against closure of the Cedar River library location without allowing the public more voice and say-so in the matter, especially with so many stepping forward against the council’s direction.
It is difficult for me to write this letter since Ms. Tabak, as I along with others, stands in agreement that the Cedar River location should continue to be Renton’s downtown library. Sadly, the new location decided on is less conducive to safety and parking needs and the building plan for what will replace the current library hasn’t the facility to continue programs for children, which the Cedar River building now accommodates.
Because of allegations made, and timing of the ballot mailing with your printing Ms Tabak’s letter, I felt a rebuttal was immediately necessary, as Ms. Tabak’s claims unfairly cast aspersions on Mr. Taylor who has our city’s well-being at heart and the willingness and determination to be representative of the people living here.
