In many ways, Liberty’s 6-2 win against Sammamish Friday was just like many other Patriots wins this season. John McLeod pitched and gave his team a chance to win. Eric Peterson hit a homerun and had a big day at the plate.
But what set this win apart were the stakes: a KingCo title. The Patriots (15-3 overall, 14-2) now hold a three-game lead for first place in the league over Mount Si with just two games left in the regular season.
Liberty led the Totems 1-0 through three before the team put four insurance runs on the board in the fourth inning.
Peterson and Troy Colyer each went 3-4 with two RBIs. Peterson hit a homerun, while Colyer hit a triple. Eric Etter went 2-2 with two RBIs.
Liberty plays Interlake on May 4 and Mercer Island May 6 to finish the regular season before heading to the KingCo tournament, where the team will have a chance to advance to state for the first time since 2005.
