Liberty boys golf team wins state title

Liberty golfers finished in second and tied for third place, making the Patriots the only school with two golfers in the top 10.

The Liberty Boys Golf team this week sent six members to compete at the state tournament – the maximum allowed – and came away as the 2016 2A state champions for the first time in school history.

Liberty golfers finished in second and tied for third place, making the Patriots the only school with two golfers in the top 10 and leading them to a team score of 120.5, well ahead of second place Bellingham, who scored a total of 69.5.

Luke Hall led the way for Liberty, notching a total score of 146, just two over par and one stroke behind the winner. Chase McIntosh finished with a 151, tied for third place.

“All year long, I told everyone that would listen that this team was going to win the state tournament,” Coach Jon Kinsley said in an email. “And the kids went out and made it happen.”

On the girls side, Liberty finished third. McHailey King was the top finisher at 13th.
