Previews of the Renton Community Foundation’s ‘super silent’ online auction begin tonight

Funds raised will be used to support operations at the foundation, which relies solely on administrative fees.

The Renton Community Foundation will hold its second online auction from Oct. 15 to 25 at Biddingforgood.com.

Funds raised will be used to support operations at the foundation, which relies solely on administrative fees.

According to Lynn Bohart, Executive Director, those fees are not enough.

“Most community foundations have found that administrative fees don’t cover all expenses,” she said in a press release. “If they did, we’d have to raise them so high that less people would establish charitable funds.”

To make up the difference, the board each year conducts a campaign and stages an online auction.

“The good thing with this auction is that you don’t have to dress up, get a babysitter, or even get into the car. You can participate right from your own home,” Auction Chair Rich Wagner said.

This year foundation board members have invited individuals to sit at ‘virtual’ tables. In return, the guest promises to visit the website at least once during the auction. When they do, their name will be entered into a drawing.

If they bid on something, their name will be entered into a bigger drawing for each time they bid.

“We wanted to have some fun with this,” Wagner says. “It’s all about developing relationships and letting people know what the Foundation does for the community and how we act as a resource for charitable giving.”

The Foundation’s ‘virtual’ preview party is today, Oct. 11. But of course no one will be there except online, making the super silent auction, well, super silent.
