Renton Police are reporting that this year’s New year’s Eve was relatively quiet, but there were a few minor incidents involving guns.
At about 3:20 a.m. Jan. 1, police were called to Homeruns on Airport Way for a report of fight with shots fired. According to police, there were conflicting stories, no suspect descriptions and no cooperative victims. While follow-up information was being put out on the shots fired, it was updated that 20 subjects were fighting.
As officers arrived, subjects were running in all directions. The building had one gunshot through the glass above the front door (no victims) and one injured person involved in a fight on the opposite side of the building with a brick to the head.
The fight victim refused to cooperate and did not want to be identified as a victim.
Police also responded to a pair of armed robberies, one just before midnight and one around 2:30 a.m.
Police believe it is the same subject who robbed the Shell convenience store/gas station tonight at 11:30 p.m. also robbed the AM/PM on Rainier Avenue North at about 2:30 a.m.
According to police, a suspect of the same height and build and wearing the same clothing at both robberies, a black cotton hoodie with hood up, gray scarf over the face, light-colored and patterned pajama pants boots, was involved in both incidents.
According to police, the suspect racked a round of his semi-auto pistol when the single clerk on duty at the AM/PM asked, “Is that a real gun?” The clerk hit the alarm, which did not work, and then called his boss. 911 was not called until 0800 hrs.
Police are investigating.
