Christian Ie, a senior at Kentridge High School won exactly $1 competing in the Jeopardy! Teen Tournament episode last month.

He was one of 15 students who made it into the tournament, but one of 500 who auditioned for the show.

The Renton resident was given $5,000 for reaching the quarterfinals of the competition.

“Watching myself on TV was awesome,” wrote Ie in an email. “It’s hard to describe, but just knowing that you’re being watched by millions is a weird feeling in itself.”

Ie planned to donate some of the money from the tournament to his favorite cause, Loose Change 2 Loosen Chains. It is a fund-raising program that seeks to help end modern day slavery and human trafficking. He previously conducted a fund-raiser at his school and wanted to use some of the tournament money to match donations brought in by the school.

He also plans to give some of the money to his church and the rest he hasn’t decided what to do with it yet.

“To my friends, family, school and community, thank you for your support, both before and after the airing,” Ie wrote. “I honestly couldn’t have asked for better support. To all Kentridge Chargers, I want all of you to try out for Jeopardy at least once, because you never know where you may end up, or how much money you might earn!”
