The following information was compiled from City of Renton police reports.

A witness recovered a purse stolen from a woman in downtown Renton on Aug. 10.

A woman reported to police just after 4:30 a.m. that someone snatched her purse and shoved her to the ground behind the Salvation Army thrift store, 221 Morris Ave. S. She had a laceration on the right side of her head next to her right eyebrow.

A witness chased the suspect, got her purse back and returned it to her. The woman was extremely intoxicated, police said.

She reluctantly told police  she knew the suspect. Fire arrived, treated her and transported her to Valley Medical Center.

The woman called police later that day at almost 10 p.m. to say she spotted the suspect near the Liberty Park skate park.

Woman steals school supplies

A 20-year-old was arrested for stealing school supplies and cosmetics on Aug. 10.

The woman was being held at Wal-Mart, 743 Rainier Ave. S., at about 12:30 p.m. by store security.

They witnessed the woman select items and place them in a shopping bag she was carrying or underneath her purple sweatshirt.

She left the store without paying. When questioned by police, she could only offer a high school identification card.

Police arrested and booked her into jail for investigation of third-degree theft.

Overdose victim dropped at hospital

An overdose victim was “dumped” at Valley Medical Center on Aug. 10.

Around 10 p.m. security and nurses told police a female was “dumped” at the emergency room entrance by an unknown male.

The man stated the woman overdosed and then he fled the hospital. Nursing staff attempted to identify the woman by going through her purse.

Later another woman arrived at the hospital and identified the woman as her sister. She was expected to survive the overdose.

Woman robbed in parking lot

A woman was robbed while walking in a store parking lot on Aug. 11.

The woman was walking in the Fred Meyer parking lot, 365 Renton Center Way, around 9 p.m. when she was approached by a group of eight black males. One of the males, described as 5-foot-11-inches tall, wearing a blue shirt, baseball hat and shorts, grabbed her purse from behind and ran off with the group of males.

The woman’s Coach purse and wallet were stolen along with identification, a cell phone and cash.

Mother, son fight

A mother and son got into a physical fight on Aug. 12.

Police responded to a domestic assault complaint in the 2100 block of Lake Washington Boulevard at about 1:30 p.m.

A 13-year-old had been arguing with his 31-year-old mother about her refusal to let him visit his father in prison. The mother slapped the boy in the face for swearing at her. The boy retaliated by striking his mother in the face, then throwing her cell phone on the floor, breaking it.

Police told the boy his mother had a right to discipline him. The boy postured and said that he just wanted to go to jail.

The mother expressed concern that her child wanted to join a gang and hangs around the wrong crowd. His father is currently serving time for a murder charge related to a drive-by shooting in Seattle.

Police decided to forward a report to the King County Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office for a review of charges against the boy for investigation of fourth-degree assault and third-degree malicious mischief.

Man drops bottle, assaulted

A Renton man was assaulted while walking on the street on Aug. 11.

Between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., the 20-year-old man was passing a residence in the 3000 block of Northeast 16th Street when he accidently dropped a beverage bottle on the sidewalk. The occupant of that residence walked up to him and hit him in the mouth, he told police.

His front teeth cut into his lower right lip. The 20-year-old said the assault was unprovoked and the man who hit him has a history of assaulting teenagers in the neighborhood.

Police could not locate the suspect.

Man arrested for possessing firearm, smoking at transit center

A 26-year-old Renton man was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful transit conduct at the Renton Transit Center on Aug. 2.

A bicycle patrol officer first stopped the man for smoking in the transit center, which is against the law. The man smelled of alcohol and appeared nervous. The officer asked him if he had any weapons on him and the man replied, “Just mine.”

The man was patted down and a black and silver pistol was discovered hidden under his shirt and tucked into his pants.

Police discovered that he didn’t have a permit to carry a concealed weapon. The man was arrested and transported to jail.
