The fire that caused $750,000 worth of damage to the Heritage Grove Apartments in the Highlands June 10 has been ruled accidental.
The cause of the two-alarm fire was food cooking on a stove top, said Deputy Fire Chief Bill Flora.
It took two hours to put the blaze out and another two hours to put out flare ups and hot spots, according to the fire department.
The fire injured two people, who jumped from the third floor to escape. It also displaced 24 residents.
Apartment management could not move residents back into 21 to 22 of the units, according to Alesha Dawson, the property manager.
She was able to move one person into another unit at Heritage Grove and five people she transferred to the Heritage Sunset site. The rest are still staying with friends or family.
Demolition on part of the burned building started Tuesday. One section of the building will be completely rebuilt, while the other section will be remodeled.
It should take six months to a year to complete, said Dawson.
The investigation continues into who burglarized several of the units after the fire.
