Liberty will have to wait a little longer to attempt to earn a state berth. The Patriots’ winner-to-state game against West Seattle Tuesday night was suspended by rain.
The score is tied 0-0 in the top of the fifth, West Seattle has a runner on first. The game will be continued Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Sammamish.
Liberty pitcher John McLeod got into a jam in the first inning when West Seattle loaded the bases with one out, but he induced two fly balls to get out of the inning.
McLeod then got into a groove, striking out five batters in the next three innings.
Liberty’s offense threatened in the third when Eric Etter walked and Kyle Arbaugh advanced him to third with a single. But the Patriots couldn’t score.
Rain started in the bottom of the third inning but the teams attempted to play through. Umpires halted the game for 15 minutes to wait for the rain to pass in the top of the fifth. When the rain intensified the game was suspended.
