Renton police detectives planned to speak with the 22-year-old Seattle man who was shot multiple times outside a downtown restaurant early Friday morning, after his surgery at Harborview.

It’s part of investigators’ efforts to learn more about the shooting and the reasons for it.

The victim’s injuries weren’t life threatening, nor were those suffered by a 22-year-old Renton woman, who was an apparent bystander at the shooting, according to Renton Det. Robert Onishi.

About a dozen shots from a handgun were fired just after midnight in the 200 block of Wells Avenue, based on the shell casings collected on the ground and bullets pulled from nearby cars and buildings.

The shooting wasn’t random and the woman wasn’t an intended target, Onishi said. Those involved apparently were inside the Casian Grill Restaurant, 210 Wells Ave. S., just before the shooting outside.

The suspects are described as two males in their 20s, one Asian and one white. They may have fled in an older black BMW. Other witnesses also left the scene before police arrived.

Police continue to look for the suspects; no weapons were recovered. Investigators always consider the possibility a shooting is gang-related, but so far there’s no indication it was, Onishi said.

Besides interviewing the two victims, investigators are also reviewing security video taken at surrounding businesses.

Detectives spoke with the Renton victim after the shooting, but the lead detective “is looking to get a little more clarity” from the Seattle man, Onishi said.

Investigators also impounded two cars that they were searching for additional bullets.

The initial 911 call came in at 12:07 a.m.; police also received calls from those in the immediate area who had heard gun shots.
