Things to get excited about after Seattle’s 23-20 win over the Chicago Bears | Seahawks

Here are a few things fans should be excited about after the Seahawks improved to 3-2 with a 23-20 win against the Bears Sunday:

  • Russell Okung. A match-up of Okung against Chicago defensive end Julius Peppers looked downright unfair before the game. Okung, a rookie, had yet to play a full half of a regular-season. Peppers has long been one of the league’s best pass rushers. Okung held his own and more Sunday. Peppers didn’t get a sack and Okung gave the Seahawks hope.
  • Aaron Curry. Curry whiffed on Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler on the first pass, fell down, leapt from the ground to get Cutler on the second try. It was an excellent hustle play to get Curry his first sack of the season. The second-quarter play forced a Chicago punt.
  • The safeties. Roy Lewis and Jordan Babineaux have their flaws, but used correctly (as they were Sunday) the two can be devastating. Babineaux picked up 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble, while Lewis added another sack.

While Earl Thomas didn’t get an interception this week, he looked much better in deep coverage. Lawyer Milloy continues to be huge in the secondary.

  • Marshawn Lynch. Seventeen rushes for 44 yards doesn’t jump off the stat sheet. However, Lynch’s presence was felt. He scored a touchdown and gave the Seahawks something they haven’t had for a long time: A consistent power rushing attack. Lynch’s pounding of the defense opened up plenty of space for Justin Forsett, who rushed 10 times for 67 yards and a score. The two look like a promising rushing duo.
  • Walter Thurmond. Thurmond stepped in for an injured Kelly Jennings and held his own.
  • The passing game. Matt Hasselbeck was effective with a run game capable of making defenses worry. He found Mike Williams 10 times for 123 yards. Deon Butler caught four passes for 47 yards and a touchdown. Hasselbeck finished with 242 yards and a touchdown.
