Apartment trashed
An ex-tenant is suspected of leaving his apartment in shambles prior to leaving on March 12 in Renton.
The 21-year-old male suspect had moved in two months ago, not paid any rent or damage deposit. He was then locked out the apartment but given access again to move his belongings out.
A surveillance video shows the ex-tenant moving out, but it isn’t clear if anyone else entered the apartment while he was out of the residence. After, the manager was alerted to water coming out of the apartment. He entered it to find standing water from a kitchen sink that was plugged and overflowing, all the burners on the stove turned on and the heat in the apartment turned up all the way.
A ‘piano teacher’ con
A female scam artist conned a Renton woman out of $3,900 on March 2.
The Renton woman told police she received an email from someone she thought was her son’s piano teacher, claiming that she had been mugged while on a trip to Spain. The person requested money to pay for her hotel and a taxi to the airport, promising to pay her back when she returned home.
The Renton woman wired $2,300 to the person. Then the suspect emailed that they received the money but would need additional money because they missed their plane. So, the Renton woman sent an additional $1,600. Then the suspect emailed and claimed she miscalculated the conversion and asked for more money.
The Renton woman, becoming suspicious, emailed the person asking her to respond to questions about her son. The person responded negatively.
The Renton woman decided to call her son’s piano teacher and she discovered that she hadn’t emailed her or gone to Spain. The piano teacher said that several other people she knew had received the email from her.
