If ever there was an opportunity to take advantage of the good weather the area has been experiencing all week, this Friday may be it.

May 18 is F5 Bike to Work Day, hosted by the Cascade Bicycle Club.

Renton will have one of the 43 official commute stations, where commuters can pick up free stuff, snacks, city and county maps, bicycle commuting information and have their bikes checked by bike shop station sponsors.

Renton’s station will be at Hardie Avenue Southwest and Southwest Seventh Street and its sponsored by Seattle Bike Supply with assistance provided by Center Cycle and Torker Cycles.

There will be a rally in front of Seattle City Hall from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. with music, free coffee and goodies.

Then from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. there’s a Bike to Work After Party in Ballard at 22nd Avenue Northwest between Northwest Market and Ballard Avenue Bergen Place Park.

The weather is expected to reach 63 degrees and be mostly sunny with a 10 percent chance of rain on Friday.

There are 283 miles of bike trails in Seattle, according to the City of Seattle and Cascade Bicycle Club.

The club also reports on their website, that 25 percent of the U.S. population bicycles, as found in the Omnibus Transportation Survey by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics.
