Macadons: A sweet spot for flavor and community in Renton

Macadons has grown from a humble holiday tradition into a thriving business that serves delicious treats.

Macadons is a renowned macaron and ice cream shop located in Downtown Renton, producing over 10,000 macarons a week and employing a dedicated team of 24.

Michael Huynh is the owner of Macadons, 826 3rd St., Renton, which he said he began in 2014 during the holiday season. Huynh said he had limited funds and many friends to give gifts to, so macarons were chosen as a thoughtful and affordable gift.

Macarons are small round meringue-based sandwich cookies that come in a variety of flavors. Huynh said that at the time, these delicate treats were gaining popularity on social media. However, he said what started as a simple gesture eventually grew into a full-fledged business.

Huynh said the name “Macadons” is a creative play on the word “macaron.” According to Huynh, the business originally started with a partner named Donna, leading to the combination of “macarons by Donna” into “Macadons.” He said this unique name has since become a recognizable brand.

According to Huynh, the primary goal for Macadons is to expand the business while ensuring that every team member has opportunities to grow. He said creating a workplace where employees can pursue their passions is an essential part of the company’s vision.

Reflecting on the journey so far, Huynh said that there have been both rewarding and challenging times. He said every experience, including the difficult moments, has contributed to his growth.

“We are 11 years into this business, and there’s been really good times,” Huynh said. “But I appreciate all of it because even the difficult times really help me grow as an individual and as an entrepreneur as well.”

Huynh said academics were not always his strong suit, as traditional school subjects did not spark much interest from him. Huynh said before launching Macadons, he had no formal background in business or culinary arts. However, he said running a business has fostered a love for continuous learning, particularly in the areas of business management and development.

Macadons is open Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
