I can’t wait to tell you about a new dining establishment in town! After a long delay, Daphne’s Greek Café at The Landing has finally opened its doors for business. Daphne’s joins the ever-growing list of establishments at The Landing and on my visit was packed with patrons during lunch.
Daphne’s general manager, Jeff Anderson, has a firm grasp of customer service and Renton, making him a perfect fit for this new location. In between greeting customers and handing out coupons for a return, free dinner experience, Anderson stopped to tell me about some things he has planned in the community. He has already showcased his catering business at Renton Chamber of Commerce events and plans to work with Renton High School and others in the near future. Clearly, he “gets it” in Renton. Daphne’s has a unique program for the chain called “A Big Fat Greek Party,” where they partner with local charities in the community. This is the kind of business we love seeing enter our city!
And, I haven’t even told you about the food! I’m a true sucker for a Greek salad and this one is first class. Sharp, fresh ingredients, including those pepperocini peppers I love. My husband and I shared a fiery feta on the side – oh, my goodness this was so good — accompanied by grilled pita bread. The restaurant is spacious, clean and the customer service on my visit was amazing. The menu also includes gyros, which I can’t wait to try, grilled steak and chicken ka-bobs, crispy shrimp, vegetarian falafel, hummus, and dolmas (stuffed grape leaves). I have it on good authority that their Lemon Chicken Soup—a Greek specialty is also very tasty.
Daphne’s also has an extensive catering menu, something to keep in mind as the holidays approach. Their unique menu would be perfect for the office party! At a chamber meeting I attended recently, they served their vegetarian tray, which is one of their most popular menu items. It included the dolmas, falafel, that fire feta I mentioned earlier and spanakopita, (phyllo dough stuffed with spinach and feta cheese), roasted red pepper hummus and tzatziki sauce (a creamy cucumber/yogurt sauce). If this doesn’t make you hungry, I don’t know what will!
Give them a try; they are open for lunch and dinner at The Landing. And, while I am talking about restaurants, I would like to mention that I was sorry to hear that Fin-N-Bone has closed its doors. It is important to continue to patronize our downtown restaurants as well. We don’t want any others to fall by the wayside.
Bon Appetit!
