Two downtown stores focused on independent artists have moved in together.

The hope is that by splitting rent money, Tyrannosaurus Records (TRx) and happy delusions can stay alive through the bad economy.

“Neither one of us is making money in what we’re doing, but we love it,” said Mary Clymer, owner of happy delusion, which features local crafters.

The merge also gives the owners, who both work second jobs, an opportunity to reduce their hours and keep shop open longer.

In the fall Clymer plans to open the store, located at 924 S. Third St., from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.

In the back of the store a large checkout counter was removed to make room for more artists. A smaller counter was installed up front.

The left-hand wall is filled with music albums and posters. Stands sell t-shirts and racks are loaded with used records.

“People have been coming in, excited about the change,” Clymer said.

Indie craft and indie music go well together, she added.

Clymer first began work with TRx owner Nich Sullivan when they organized an indie festival, UnDisCoVerEd, with music and crafts this spring.

“I honestly believe that us being here helps the community and downtown,” Clymer said.
