Valley Medical Center is the first hospital in Washington state to acquire the da Vinci® Si™ Surgical System — the world’s only robotic surgical system with 3D HD vision.

The da Vinci Si provides surgeons with an alternative to both traditional open surgery and conventional laparoscopy, putting a surgeon’s hands at the controls of a state-of-the-art robotic platform.

At VMC the da Vinci Si will primarily be used for prostatectomy procedures and hysterectomies. The first gynecological procedure occurred in mid-May and prostatectomy procedures are being scheduled.

Prominently featured on a recent “Grey’s Anatomy” TV episode, the da Vinci Si gives surgeons precision, dexterity and control that enable a minimally invasive approach for many complex surgical procedures while minimizing blood loss and the time a patient needs to stay in the hospital.

Core technologies for the da Vinci systems include advanced 3D HD visualization with up to 10-times magnification, offering surgeons an immersive view of the operative field; EndoWrist® instrumentation, providing surgeons with natural dexterity and range of motion far greater than even the human hand; and Intuitive® motion technology, which replicates the operative experience and control of open surgery by preserving natural eye-hand-instrument alignment and intuitive instrument control.
