Walker’s Renton Subaru will donate $250 to the Friends of Renton Schools foundation for every new Subaru purchased or leased between Nov. 21-Jan 2.

“Providing funding to our local teachers and schools to help make our school system a better place for student learning is something I believe in and that benefits our employees and our community,” said Dale Walker, owner of Walker’s Renton Subaru.

The donations are part of Subaru America’s national Share the Love event where new car buyers can choose to have a charitable donation go to any of five national charities or donated to a local organization. The Friends of Renton Schools foundation is managed by local volunteers raising funds to continue improvements in every school in the Renton School District.

“The funding provided by the Friends of Renton Schools foundation is being used to improve student learning in elementary, middle and high school classrooms throughout our district, said Dr. Merri Rieger, school district superintendent. “Having committed business supporters like Dale Walker if proof this community really cares about education and backs that up with meaningful support.”

This is the first time Subaru has allowed local dealerships to add a local charity to the annual giving campaign. Walker, has been actively involved in the Renton school foundation and found the organization a good fit for the annual giving campaign.

“Walker’s Renton Subaru prides itself in our connection to the community,” Walker said. “Being able to give to the Friends of Renton Schools foundation through the Share the Love event to continue to improve our school system, is just one simple way we can prove that commitment.”

Friends of Renton Schools foundation chair Pam Teal said she was delighted Walker approached her with the offer to add the foundation to this year’s list of donations.

“Dale has been a great supporter of the Renton School District and the school foundation,” Teal said. “This is just another way he has proven his commitment to our great local education system.”

Subaru will donate $10 million to charitable partners during the sixth annual Share the Love event. Customers at Walker’s Renton Subaru can choose to donate to Friends of Renton Schools foundation or five national charities including ASPCA, Make-A-Wish, Meals on Wheels Association of America, National Park Foundation and Teach for America. Over the past five years, Subaru donated $25 million through the Share the Love event.
