Keep our Democracy strong: get involved

Democracy is never more powerful than when we, the people, become active participants. This was highly evident in the Renton Reporter Aug. 20 edition concerning the school Board of Directors and the college Board of Trustees issues. The question that begs to be answered in the Renton Technical College situation, the firing of Dr. Bressler is, “How can the vote by Frank Irigon, who is not eligible to hold the seat as a trustee in the first place, be valid?” Either this matter should be settled in court, or the trustees should correct their misguided decision on their own and try to restore dignity and “trust” to the Board of Trustees.

The parents and teachers who were misled by the Renton School District Board should channel their 900 signatures into a write-in against board President Al Talley, who is running in the upcoming election unopposed. (Renton Reporter, Aug. 28, Fifth-grade band, orchestra cut, despite 900 signatures.) We the people should continue to make our voices heard and help our leaders make wise decisions.
