Union: Stopping could pose danger

While I sympathize with the Wrights’ plight trying to get out of their own driveway, obstructed due to the overflow traffic caused by the closure of Duvall, I’m a little concerned about her solution. If she is asking people to stop in the middle of the traffic flow to let her out onto the road, she is advocating an unsafe and illegal action. This is unsafe due to the hazards created when only part of the traffic stops.

You see it all the time. One car stops to let someone by, but other lanes don’t know what is happening and keep moving, sometimes with no visibility for the car attempting to get by. This is how fenders get banged, rear-end collisions occur, motorcyclists get clobbered, and pedestrians get run over.

You may think you’re being considerate when you stop a whole lane, but think for a moment about the dangerous situation you’ve just created. Maybe a little courtesy isn’t worth someone’s life?

As far as the Wrights’ access, I believe the city owes them a safer solution. With any luck, before someone gets hurt.
