As a resident of Public Hospital District No. 1 (a.k.a. Valley Medical Center; VMC), as well as an employee at VMC, I am deeply concerned over the recent divisive behaviors of the district’s Board of Commissioners. As stated in VMC’s mission statement, VMC is a healthcare network committed to improving the overall health of our community. I urge the board to maintain this vision during their future interactions, since the main goal of the board should be to act as responsible stewards for the hospital district. This is best achieved through collaboration, professionalism, integrity and ethical behavior. VMC is on the cusp of achieving new heights, given the upcoming alliance with UW Medicine. We need and deserve a board that can work together to best represent the interests of the hospital district during this time of change.
