On Monday, the Renton Chamber of Commerce surprised 10 teachers at seven different schools as part of the Ahead of the Class Prize Patrol.
The Ahead of the Class award ceremony is scheduled for April 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center. The Prize Patrol traveled around Renton Monday to notify the 10 teachers who were chosen as finalists. The top five will be awarded $500 and the remaining five will receive $100. And all 10 will be given an engraved award.
This year’s finalists were:
- Kalisa Amparo, Maplewood Heights Elementary
- Rebecca Bland, Benson Hill Elementary
- Christopher Coy, Hazen High
- Gretchen Greutman, Kennydale Elementary
- Amber Hronek, Hazelwood Elementary
- Sarah Redd, Renton Technical College

These finalists will attend a special award ceremony in mid-April hosted at the Seattle Seahawks headquarters in Renton, where the five winners will be announced. The awards have been presented for more than 15 years by Renton Chamber of Commerce members to Renton teachers who excel at helping students reach their full potential.
