To wrap up this February’s Black History Month, 55 folks attended the SKY Urban Empowerment and Transformation Center’s Black History Program, Feb. 26. The event this year was titled “2020 Celebrating Black Excellence – Realizing the Dream.” Linda Smith said the program highlighted two local businesses and included performances of tap dancing, poetry, drama and stories. The program offered moments of reflection, and also included a question and answer between three Renton police officers and attendees from the Renton Black community.
“The focus was to tell stories of those who have gone before us, and those who are in our community and celebrate their achievement and success. Through this, our goal was to present opportunities to our audience on ways to be empowered, to continue to aspire to reach for excellence,” Smith said.
