Cinderella and Prince Charming will take the stage at IKEA Performing Arts Center April 4 and 5, along with the familiar fairy-tale cast of a wicked stepmother and stepsisters, Fairy Godmother, King and Queen.

But unlike the Disney version, the characters in Evergreen City Ballet’s “Cinderella” will be in ballet shoes.

The Renton ballet company’s upcoming production is its second rendition of “Cinderella.” The production is one of ECB’s four annual performances. The 90-minute “Cinderella” was choreographed by ECB former artistic director Wade Walthall for a spring 2007 performance.

Walthall set the dancing to music by Ottorino Respighi.

“It’s very light-hearted music,” says ECB Ballet Mistress Andi Bryndza.

The score goes along with ECB’s happy version of the rags-to-riches tale, exaggerated by elaborate sets and costumes. The show is well-suited for children and adults alike, Byndza says.

Bryndza is staging “Cinderella” and artistic director Kevin Kaiser is directing.

Bryndza also dances the part of the Fairy Godmother in each of the two casts. Each cast has about 30 performers.

Bryndza danced the part of Cinderella in the 2007 production.

This year’s “Cinderella” has an almost entirely new cast from that 2007 production. The production also features a new carriage, used to take Cinderella to the ball.

ECB dancers have been rehearsing “Cinderella” since mid-February. The show is coming along “very well,” Bryndza says.

“We have a beautiful Cinderella in both casts, and they and the prince are willing to come in even on Sundays to work,” Bryndza says. “They’re willing to put in as much time as they can, and its coming along really well.”
