The city of Renton and Renton Downtown Partnership is hosting Pop-Up Downtown from Sept. 15 to 17.
The event is a celebration of Park(ing) Day, which is Sept. 15. Parking spots throughout downtown Renton will be transformed into temporary parks — also known as parklets— in an effort to change how people view and use public space.
“They serve to stimulate activity in downtowns, generate discussion around how public space is utilized, and create an atmosphere that encourages community members of all ages to gather and take pride in the vibrancy of their neighborhood,” reads a press release.
In its second year, Pop-Up Downtown is now a three-day event, and will have more parklets this year. All the action starts on 913 S Third St, where there will be an urban market with artisan vendors, live music and the return of The Owl Project. There will also be food trucks and carts throughout the area.
