Although the confident high-school senior doesn’t show it – Jake Nicholson is nervous. It’s Jan. 7, opening night of “Godspell” at First Stage Theatre in Issaquah, and he plays a leading role – Judas.
He hopes he’ll be able to say his lines with finesse, and whip out that darn double pirouette in one of the dance numbers.

It was Friday night and I toyed with the idea of ordering a Black and Tan: a blend of Guinness and Harp that layered perfectly in a pint glass like a two-tiered petit four.
Just the kind of beer to enjoy at an establishment like A Terrible Beauty: a 7,000-square-foot Irish pub operating in downtown Renton since 2010.
Luther’s Table benefit
Luther’s Table Benefit Concert will be held at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 1700 Edmonds Ave. N.E., Dec. 16, 7 p.m. Tickets are $10, capped at $40 for families and can be purchased at Luther’s Table or St. Matthews Lutheran Church.
“The Polar Express” is coming to Renton’s Carco Theater Dec. 16 – 17.
This is the third annual production for the Blue Dog Dance group and features a cast of over 90 local performers from age 3 to more than 60 years old. Performers are from Renton, Bellevue, Newcastle, Issaquah and Maple Valley.

My very favorite holiday tradition is making homemade soap with my kids for simple holiday gifts for family and friends.
After Thanksgiving I resurrect the kettle from the garage and dust off my well-worn soap making recipe book. I open up my special box that contains a trove of herbs and resins such as dried calendula, lavender petals, French green clay—these ingredients add texture, color or have healing properties for the skin like oatmeal. I open my apothecary case filled with little blue bottles of essential oils: peppermint, lavender, jasmine, fir needle and rosemary.

So I was bummed when I discovered I had an interview with Chris Ballew — member of the alternative rock group The Presidents of the United States of America who also happens to make extremely popular kids music under the pseudonym Caspar Babypants — but no show in good ole Renton.
The People have chosen “The Disconnect” as their favorite film of Renton FilmFrenzy IV. The voting for the People’s Choice Curvee was conducted online at rentonreporter.com. “The Disconnect” won handily with 59 votes or slightly more than half of the votes cast.
