The machine is talking. “Hello,” it says. “My name is … Brian.”
But the machine is not Brian. Brian is the boy typing the machine’s words.
“I am in 8 grade at Nelsen,” Brian writes.
“I am in… number sign … 8 grade … at Nelsen,” the machine repeats. Imagine the halting, nasal voice of a robot. That’s what this machine sounds like.

Of course, anyone who has followed the polling online for the last few weeks already knows that the bread won. But, this gives us a rare chance to say, “And the winner is…”
The space behind Celebration Church looks like a field, empty except a beige modular. But where some see a barren field and an ugly building on concrete blocks, Pastor Dave McAlister sees a community center.

Most corn stalks reach seven or eight feet tall. In Wyman Dobson’s Renton garden, the metal rods that hold up his corn are eight feet. At 14 feet, his corn stalks are nearly twice that height. Each cob splits into three big pieces for corn on the cob.

TO OUR READERS
The Renton Reporter continues the presentation of recipes from the culinary program students and staff at Renton Technical College. Each dish is paired with wines in various price ranges, as suggested by local wine experts.
Often when people ask me what to pair with what they are having for dinner, they name the main meat of the meal – and not how it is prepared or what spices or sauces may be used. Pairing a wine with a meat can be quite simple; pairing it to a recipe can be a bit more difficult. Chicken would have a list of wines that can go with it, but add a spicy recipe to the mix and you have a whole different list of wines. I would normally pair Riesling with spicy Asian foods, sauvignon blanc with spicy Mexican foods. But spicy chicken? That took some thought. In the end I felt that this meal required a lighter white, but not as light as the ones above, to hold up the chicken dish, and found Viognier to be a fantastic match!
