Photos: Renton’s first Salmon Festival spawns interest in local waterways

At the first Cedar River Salmon Festival in Liberty Park, families and salmon watchers had the chance to learn more about the local salmon and waterways in a fun and informative way.

On Saturday, Oct. 12, as part of the Salmon SEEson, the festival was partnered with Environmental Science Center. The festival had booths with the City of Renton, Renton Parks, Mid Sound Fisheries, Renton Library and Lunalee the Mermaid, who offered a photo booth and information about life in the Pacific Ocean. There was also a booth with the Seattle Aquarium.

The festival included a tour of the local salmon, crafts and even the chance to dissect a hand-sewn salmon, then a real salmon.

The next salmon-related event in Renton will be Fish or Treat on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. to noon. For more information, visit envsciencecenter.org/salmon-festivals.
