Thirteen children nominated by Renton Communities in Schools bought their family Christmas gifts with the help of Renton officers, who partnered with the kids to finish their shopping lists Dec. 15 at Target in The Landing.

The Heroes & Helpers event included offering each in-need kids a gift card, courtesy of Target, to take care of their shopping needs. When they finished buying for family, Renton Kiwanis Club members offered assistance wrapping the presents.

Then each kid was surprised by their own presents and food donated thanks to Kiwanis, Walmart and Fred Meyer. Community Programs Coordinator Stephanie Hynes said that she wanted to surprise the kids with gifts instead of buying for themselves along with their family gifts, which is common in other Shop with a Cop events.
