Renton Civic Theater seeks historic photos for anniversary

For its 25 anniversary, Renton Civic Theater is looking for any photographs of the theater from its past as the Renton Theater movie house. “We have looked through several historic data bases and have only come up with one picture from the 1960s,” said artistic/managing director Bill Huls. “We would love to have some pictures to display to compliment the 1940s movie poster we found in our attic.”

The Renton Civic Theater is offering two tickets to any show next season for pictures of the theater, either exterior or interior.

In addition to showing the history of the art deco movie theater – the last of Renton’s original theaters still being used as a theater – Renton Civic has also planned several special events to celebrate the theater’s silver anniversary.

“We have let our patrons choose our musicals this year by majority vote.  We usually only perform two musicals, but since there was a tie we are performing three all-time favorites as a thank you to our fans,” said Huls.

The theater also plans to show classic movies once a month between stage productions.

The 25 Anniversary season will include “Grease,” “Arsenic and Old Lace,” “Annie,” “The Foreigner” “The Diary of Anne Frank” and “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.”
