Renton will get a look at two sub-cultures through a screening of two documentaries this weekend.
The Los Angeles-based company j2f productions will present two films at the Renton Civic Theatre on Saturday, May 12.
The first documentary, “Faire: An American Renaissance,” screens at 6 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session with the director, Doug Jacobson.
The film explores the true story of the community that created the Renaissance Pleasure Faire in 1963 that has grown to become a so-called worldwide phenomenon.
It is a movement that includes street performance, handmade arts and crafts, booths, performers and living history scenarios.
“Journey to the Flames: 11 Years of Burning Man,” is the second documentary screening at 8:30 p.m., with a question-and-answer session afterward and drinks at The Berliner on Main Avenue.
The film chronicles the development of the music and arts festival over the course of 11 years from its art, mutant vehicles, theme camps, temples, explosions and flames.
Burning Man is a gathering that draws around 50,000 people to Nevada’s Black Rock Desert every year to create a temporary city of art.
It was founded as an experiment in radical self-expression.
According to Julie Jacobson, spokesperson for j2fproductions, there is a large Northwest contingent that comes to Burning Man every year.
The event is also a fund-raiser for the Seattle group, Burners Without Borders.
Tickets to the double-feature are $10 and can be purchased online at http://www.eventbrite.com/event/2625049594.
