A new downtown record store is changing the music scene with Renton’s first indie rock showcase.

Northwest x Northwest, the official grand opening party for Renton’s new Tyrannosaurus Records, plans to host four Washington bands west of the Cascades Nov. 14.

“The four bands we have booked are all different and very dynamic,” said Samantha Sullivan, owner Nich Sullivan’s wife. “His goal is to bring a really great music scene.”

The lineup includes bands from Olympia to Seattle with Ophelia’s Thunder, “high-energy keyboard driven rock n roll”; Cock and Swan “electronic/organic brilliance”; Broken Water, “atmospheric trip-rock from Olympia”; and Thunderbird Motel, “‘rock it ’til the wheels fall off’ blues rock.”

Spotlight Dance Company performers will be performing between the sets with modern, lyrical and indie rock jazz dance styles. Samantha Sullivan is an instructor at Spotlight Dance.

“Music that corresponds to the bands a little bit,” Sullivan said. “My personal goal is to bring more dance to Renton.”

If the festival is successful, Nich Sullivan is hoping to host another one spring 2010.

The show is at the Renton Civic Theatre.

“I think it will be a lot of fun,” Sullivan said.
