Book Fair – Read with Pride & Joy at Carco Theatre & Renton Community Center: In partnership with the Renton LGBTQ Community and the King County Library System this free book event for teens and adults will include authors, publishers, LGBTQ+ resource groups and library resources (with bilingual and braille books available). From 3- 8 p.m., this event will have moderated talks, Q&As, author discussions and a graphic novel panel. Located at 1715 Maple Valley Hwy in Renton.

Community Garage Sale at Renton Community Center: A perfect opportunity to turn once-loved items into another person’s treasure from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Register online to reserve your 10×10 space. Recycling event at Renton Technical College: From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the first recycling event hosted by the Solid Waste & Sustainability Division will collect metal and foam packaging, as well as accept food donations. The following items will be accepted: Auto parts, lawn chairs, water heaters, lawn mowers, bikes, iron and steel, foam packing peanuts and bubble wrap (bagged packing peanuts accepted), clean white block foam (look for #6 or EPS inside the recycle symbol). Renton 2024 Community Celebrations – AAPI & Bike Month at Earlington Park: As part of the City of Renton’s Neighbordhood, this free event in the park will include face painting, live music, lawn games, food, refreshments and information booths. It’s also an opportunity to let the City of Renton know your ideas to improve the park and take a survey, celebrate Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month and have your bicycle repaired for free. Located at 272 Thomas Avenue Southwest in Renton from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Renton American Legion Fred Hancock Post 19 Business Meeting: The Renton American Legion Fred Hancock Post 19 meets the second Tuesday of every month, except July and August, at 7 p.m. at the Post Hall, 3224 NE 12th Street, in the Renton Highlands, under the water tower. All veterans welcome. Most vets eligible for membership. America’s premier patriotic veterans organization and the prime driver of the original G. I. Bill, the Legion focuses on service to veterans and has influenced considerable social change in America, won hundreds of benefits for veterans, and produced many important programs for the community, children and youth.

Café Vets: Monthly gathering of veterans and guests for coffee and refreshments hosted by Renton American Legion Post 19 and Auxiliary Unit 19 on the third Thursday of every month (except December) from 10 a.m. to noon. Come for coffee, camaraderie and goodies. Legion membership is not a requirement, though most veterans are eligible for membership. Post Service Officer will be on hand, in case someone needs assistance with a VA claim. No agenda, just veterans getting together with other veterans and their friends. Post Hall is in the Renton Highlands, under the water tower (3224 Northeast 12th Street).

Free Museum Day at the Renton History Museum: Enjoy the wonders of the past with free admission to the museum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free museum days are every first Wednesday and third Saturday of each month.

Renton City Retro at Renton Pavilion Center: Renton’s favorite video game convention is back, complete with special guests, after parties, free arcade and video game play, vendors, toys, comic books, anime, an artist alley, cosplay contest, an e-sports tournament and even a burlesque show at the Renton Civic Theater! The convention will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. An all access VIP party will be Friday, May 17 from 7-11 p.m. and Delancy’s on 3rd Street. Project Be Free presents Family Resource Night at VFW Post 1263: From 3-7 p.m., get connected with non-profits and organizations throughout Renton and South King County that provide counseling, legal support, support groups, youth mentorship and more. Memorial Day Celebration at Veterans Memorial Park: Remember and honor those who served their country. Located at 1000 South 3rd Street, this annual city event will be at 1 p.m.

Renton Parkrun at Cedar River Trail: This weekly 5K community event takes place every Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Cedar River Trail trailhead by the I-405 overpass. This free event does require registration but is meant to be a fun event where walkers, joggers, runners, volunteers and spectators can come together.
