A 5-year-old boy in the Maplewood Heights neighborhood in Renton was bitten and dragged by a Coyote on Dec. 31, though the child sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was released from the hospital following treatment.
According to a press release from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, at about 6 p.m. on Dec. 31, WDFW officers received a report of a human-coyote incident with injuries in the Maplewood Heights neighborhood of Renton. The release stated that a coyote bit a 5-year-old boy in the upper body, pulled him to the ground and then attempted to drag him toward a greenbelt area.
According to the release, the boy sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated. He was then released from the hospital that same evening, the release stated.
According to the release, the child’s mother intervened by rushing at the coyote, which caused the coyote to release the boy. However, the coyote remained in the area until WDFW officers arrived.
According to the release, when WDFW officers arrived, they quickly located the animal near where the incident occurred and attempted to remove it lethally. The release stated despite their efforts, the coyote ran away to a nearby forested area.
