Heavy winds knocked down trees and power lines causing scattered power outages for about 600 customers in Renton Monday.
Power was cut in the Renton Highlands at about 4 a.m. after a tree took down power lines and ignited a fire, affecting 527 customers, said Puget Sound Energy Spokeperson Abigail Elliott.
At the Renton Airport winds sustained speeds as high as 20 mph with gusts reaching 33 mph Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
There was a wind advisory in effect through Monday evening. While some areas of Puget Sound saw downpours, skies over Renton remained blue most of Monday.
There were reports of small power outages in Downtown Renton including at St. Anthony’s school and Merrill Gardens.
There was a tree limb in the line on 174th Avenue Southeast.
“We did have small scattered outages through our service area,” she said.
An underground cable caused another outage for a business on Raymond Avenue Southwest. It was fixed by about 12:45 p.m., Elliott said.
A wind advisory is called when winds are strong enough that they can snap tree branches, topple small trees and cause local power outages.
