Family and friends of 12-year-old Alajawan Brown, the Skyway boy slain a year ago, will gather today to thank those who responded to his aid before he died.
Alajawan was shot to death April 29, 2010, as he walked home from buying football cleats at Walmart at the bottom of West Hill, possibly a result of mistaken identity.
Gunfire had erupted at an apartment complex on South 129th Street; prosecutors allege that Alajawan was shot by someone who thought he had some role in the shooting. He didn’t.
He was able to walk back toward Martin Luther King Way South but died in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven store. That is where his family and friends will hold a vigil at 6 p.m. to remember him and to hand out plaques to those who helped him.
The man who prosecutors say shot Alajawan, Curtis Walker, will stand trial on first-degree murder charges Sept. 6. He had pleaded innocent last summer.
