King County prosecutors have charged an Auburn man with child molestation for allegedly touching two 4-year-old girls at a Renton day care facility.
Ivan Jovahnni Anaya, 21, is being held at the Maleng Regional Justice Center on $150,000 bail on charges of first-degree child molestation and communicating with a minor for immoral purposes, according to court records.
Police arrested Anaya on June 29 at his apartment in Auburn. He has been fired from his position as a teacher’s assistant at The Orchards Child Care Center, where he worked since September.
According to charging papers, Anaya allegedly put his hands down the underpants of one child and stuck his tongue into the mouth of a different child who told her parents Anaya taught her a “new way to kiss.”
The investigation began June 13 when police were dispatched to investigate a sex offense.
On June 10, the parents of one of the girls was watching television when the child asked her mother to open her mouth so she could see her teeth. When the mother did, the child stuck her tongue in her mother’s mouth. The mother pushed her daughter aside and said “we don’t do that.”
“Mr. Ivan does,” explained the child, according to charging papers, explaining that he called it a “different way to kiss.”
According to the papers, the child went on to say that Anaya “gives her skittles, asks her to open her mouth, sticks his tongue on her mouth and she sucks it out.”
The parents immediately called the school and Anya was placed on administrative leave.
On June 13 an emergency meeting with parents was called at The Orchards to advise them of the allegations and to ask them to talk with their children, though school administration did not give out Anya’s name.
Following that meeting, a parent called the school to say his daughter told him about “Ivan touching her butt.” According to the papers, the parent asked his daughter if anything had happened with Anaya and the girl pointed to her “private area” and said he touched her there while the class was watching a movie earlier in June.
The child told her parents she thought Anya was just scratching her butt, but instead put his hand inside her underpants and then penetrated her. The child also told her parents Anya told her that he is her teacher and she shouldn’t disobey the teacher. She also re-told the story to a Child Forensic Specialist a few days later.
Anya was originally held on $15,000 bail, but prosecutors requested the amount be increased to $150,000 because of the seriousness of the charges and the continuing investigation “concerning reports about the defendant made by other children.”
Anya’s arraignment is set for July 18.
