BCC honors Renton man

Renton resident Ed Smith has received a Margin of Excellence Award from the Bellevue Community College Foundation in recognition of his work in support of the college and its students.

Renton resident Ed Smith has received a Margin of Excellence Award from the Bellevue Community College Foundation in recognition of his work in support of the college and its students.

Smith, network administrator in the college’s Computing Services department, is one of six BCC faculty and staff members to receive the honor this year. Nominated by BCC students, faculty and staff, each received a $1,000 award from the Foundation.

Others honored by the Foundation are Gabrielle Bennett, Seattle, student programs manager; Ray Pfortner, Vashon Island, photography instructor; Xinhang Hu, Bellevue, library circulation manager; Jennifer Laveglia, Seattle, mathematics instructor; and Ruth Mazzoni, Seattle, accounting paraprofessional and business administration instructor.

The Bellevue Community College Foundation, directed by a board of 24 community volunteers, is a non-profit organization that receives and manages gifts from individuals and corporations on behalf of BCC. Since its inception in 1978, the BCC Foundation has raised more than $20 million on behalf of Bellevue Community College to support scholarships and program enhancements.
