A Bellevue-area couple is suspected in the murder of 28-year-old Cherno Ceesay, an Uber driver found dead in a car crash on Dec. 13 along Renton Issaquah Road Southeast.
Probable cause documents revealed more information on what led to Issaquah police arrested the two suspects earlier this week:
Ceesay was found by police in his car that had crashed into a tree alongside the road. He appeared to have been stabbed to death, which was later confirmed in an autopsy from King County Medical Examiner’s office. Ceesay’s phone was also missing.
A search warrant for Uber records for Ceesay showed he’d picked up a passenger just a few hundred yards of the crash location, and revealed contact information for the fare and that the passenger’s Uber account has been created just a few minutes before requesting a ride from Ceesay.
Using GPS tracking, police followed Ceesay’s phone for 155 minutes after the crash, while the Uber app was running. They were able to match surveillance footage of a car with the GPS location, After arresting the driver of the vehicle for shoplifting on Dec. 15 and their vehicle was impounded. Police say they then obtained a warrant for the vehicle and found Ceesay’s phone and two knives with blood on them.
The suspects are expected to be charged Monday, Dec. 21. The judge set their bail at $2 million.
