Blotter: Couple threatened with handgun after refusing ‘weed’

The following information was compiled from City of Renton police reports:

A young man threatened a couple with a black revolver handgun in a parking lot on the 200 block of Logan Avenue South.

The couple didn’t have anything to give him, and got away unharmed Nov. 23.

The man first approached them inquiring if they wanted to purchase “weed.” When they refused his offer, he threatened them with the weapon, asking for money.

The couple responded that they didn’t have anything, and he responded, “Are you trying to punk me,” according to the report.

A garage door to their apartment opened from an exiting vehicle, and the couple decided to walk to it. The man didn’t follow, but continued to shout.

Counterfeit money

A Hooter’s cashier discovered two counterfeit $20 bills Nov. 25.

She was performing a routine money count, when she noticed the two bills didn’t feel right at 17034 116th Ave. S.E., Renton.

She marked them with a counterfeit pen, and the ink didn’t disappear as it’s supposed to.

There was no suspect information.

Possession of marijuana

An officer arrested a man who apparently smoked marijuana in a car with his three-month-year old in the back seat Nov. 23.

The man was initially stopped for having a modified muffler, when the officer saw the baggies of marijuana in the car at Southwest Seventh Street and Oaksdale Avenue Southwest.

The man denied that the 1.29 grams of marijuana was his, but a test later proved that he smoked it.

The officer was initially going to release the man. However, he refused to cooperate with police when they attempted to take his photo. He was booked in jail so police could be certain of his identity.

Theft

A man pulled a car battery from the shelf at McLendon’s Hardware and pretended to be returning it to the store for a refund, Nov. 22.

The suspect was asked to leave, but he took the battery with him.

Police found the suspect in the parking lot at 440 Rainier Ave. S. The man said he purchased the battery three weeks before.

The store was able to show that the battery type hadn’t been sold in since Oct. 10.

The man received a criminal citation.

Car prowl

A man’s car was broken into in the parking lot of Fry’s Electronics Nov. 27.

The man was only away from his vehicle for 30 minutes. When he returned his car had been unlocked and a $400 DVD player was taken from his glove box.

Bad roommate

Two roommates suspect a brother and his friends had been stealing from them for two months, before they moved out Nov. 29.

Two Nintendo DSs, about 14 video games and 30 movies were among the items taken from the 2200 block of Lincoln Place Southeast.

The brother’s friends were often at the residence when the two roommates were gone.

The victims told police the items were likely sold to buy marijuana.
