Boyfriend convicted in Skyway murder

A man charged with fatally shooting his 19-year-old girlfriend in Skyway last summer has been convicted of second-degree murder and illegal possession of a firearm.

Louis Guswalter Parker III, 20, could face 30 to 38 years in prison. He was charged with first-degree murder.

Parker, also known as “Bart,” has an extensive criminal record, including second-degree assault, robbery, burglary and unlawful possession of firearms. He’s also a member of the West Side Street Mob, according to the charging papers.

Medics responded to a 911 call on the 7900 block of South 125th Street Aug. 6, 2009, where Markesha Monroe was found shot in the head.

She was rushed to the hospital but never recovered.

An aunt, who Monroe was living with, heard the two arguing before the gunshot, according to the documents.

When the aunt tried to open the bedroom door, she waited a few minutes before Parker unlocked it.

He told the aunt that Monroe was playing with the .22-caliber gun when she accidentally shot herself. Then he jumped out the window and eluded police for about three days, according to the documents.

Parker’s sentencing is scheduled for July 2.
