A building that stood for about 90 years before it was destroyed by fire in early June is now history.
For the last two weeks or so, crews have been tearing down the building in the 200 block of Wells Avenue South. It was gutted in a massive fire on June 11, forcing tenants in the upstairs boarding rooms to flee and two businesses to find new locations nearby.
Harvey Ho, the building’s owner, has not responded to attempts by the Renton Reporter to ask him about his plans for the property.
One of the tenants who found new housing across the street, Douglas Vann, has been watching as his former home comes down. He lived in one of rooms facing Wells Avenue.
“The only thing that upsets me is that I can’t find my mom’s ashes,” he said. “Everything else is replaceable.”
Her ashes were in a small white ceramic urn.
The two businesses, A-1 Locksmith, and The Comic Den have found storefronts on South Third Street where they have reopened for business.
