Cables snap, fish truck remains in the Duwamish in Tukwila | Update: truck removed

A semi-truck has left the roadway at about 4 p.m. Wednesday and is in the Duwamish River near International Boulevard and northbound SR 99, according to the Washington state Department of Transportation

UPDATE: The Washinton state Patrol reported the truck was removed overnight.

 

A semi-truck that went into in the Duwamish River near International Boulevard and northbound SR 99 at about 4 p.m. Wednesday remained in the river Wednesday night,  according to the Washington state Department of Transportation.

The cables on the specialized Class C tow truck snapped while crews were attempting to pull the truck out of the water. Washington State Patrol has called for a crane, which was expected to arrive around 8 p.m.

It will take several more hours to pull the truck out of the water.

Here is what is closed as of about 7 p.m.:

· Pacific Highway South/Tukwila-International Blvd to northbound SR 99

· Northbound SR 99/SR 599 to southbound Tukwila-International Blvd.

· Tukwila-International Blvd to northbound SR 99

Tukwila fire and aid crews were on the scene, along with transportation department responders.

The truck was carrying processed frozen fish. The trucking company hired the private cleanup contractor to remove the truck from the river.
